City Elementary is pleased to offer summer programming! Rooted in the same model and philosophy of our school-year program, each day is filled with creative activities that build friendships, foster empathy, and inspire imaginative play. We will also set and measure academic goals to maintain and grow the fabulous gains made during the school year!

Hours: 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM (AfterCare available until 6:00 PM)

Activities: Summer at City will be full of old-fashioned summer camp fun. We’ll learn camp songs, do arts and crafts, make jewelry, go on scavenger hunts, do cooking projects, and enjoy outdoor water play. Theater games and dramatic play will spark campers’ creativity and help them to express their feelings and learn about others’ emotions, perspectives, and motivations. Weekly music classes taught by Hilary Butler will incorporate singing and musical games, as well as the basics of music theory. We will also have drama and discussion with Winning Words, a group of UIC students who come weekly to City. Local field trips will take campers out into the Hyde Park community, and gardening projects will teach them about ecosystems and where our food comes from. Tinkering time will provide each camper the opportunity for hands-on exploration of their own particular interests. And of course, every day will include plenty of structured and unstructured outdoor play time on our own playground and various neighborhood parks. Join us – for a few weeks or the whole summer!
